Twilight out of focus, the manga series written and illustrated by Jyanome, is getting an anime adaptation. It has been announced through social media and the artist has also drawn a commemorative illustration.
THE MANGA
Original titled Tasogare Out Focus is a BL yaoi manga serie written and illustated by Jyanome. It was serialize on Kodansha‘s BL digital magazine Honey Milk in june 2018 then it was compiled in a single book published in the same month in 2019.
Film enthusiast Mao Tsuchiya and his lone wolf roommate Hisashi Otomo make three promises:
① That Mao will never tell anyone that Hisashi is gay and has a boyfriend,
② That Hisashi will never approach Mao “in that way,” and
③ That they’ll respect each other’s “private time.”
The second-years’ ground rules should ensure a peaceful life together in their dorm, but reality is never as simple as it seems in the movies, and some things are not so easily promised…
The main story is divided in five parts:
- Twilight out of focus serialized on Kodansha’s BL digital magazine and collected in a single volume as previously said;
- Twilight out of focus 2: Afterimages in Slow Motion, a spin-off story serialized between 2019-2020 and collected in a single volume in July 2020;
- Twilight out of Focus 3: Overlap, the continue of the story of Hisashi and Mao, serialized between August 2019 and May 2020 and collected in a single volume in August 2020;
- Twilight out of focus 4: The Evening Monologues, another spin-off story serialized between 2020-2021 and collected in a single volume in June 2022;
- Twilight out of Focus 5: Long Take, the third part of the original story began serialization in August 2022.
Kodansha published the story both in japanese and english, and both in digital and fisical format.
THE ANIME
An anime television adaptation of Jyanome’s manga has been announced on July 3rd 2023. Yoshitsugu Matsuoka and Yuma Uchida, the voice actor of the CD version, will reprise their role as respectively Mao Tsuchiya and Hisashi Otomo.
The author drew a commemorative image for the announcement.
This is not the only work of Jyanome, other manga titles he worked on are Waraibanashi no You da (2012), Colorful na Kimi to Monochrome na Boku (2014), and Michimichi naru Mama ni (2017).
