A Sign of Affection, the manga written and illustrated by suu Morishita, is getting an anime adaptation. The announce has arrived on July 5th 2023 and now we have the premiere date.
THE MANGA
A Sign of Affection is a shojo drama romance manga written and illustrated by suu Morishita and published by Kodansha. It started being serialized in Kodansha’s Dessert magazine in July 2019. It currently includes 8 volumes.
Yuki is a typical college student, whose world revolves around her friends, social media, and the latest sales. But when a chance encounter on a train leads to her meeting friend-of-a-friend and fellow student Itsuomi-san, her world starts to widen. But even though Itsuomi-kun can speak three languages, sign language isn’t one of them. Can the two learn to communicate the budding feelings between them?
THE ANIME
So, the story between the college students Yuki and Itsuomi will be adapted into an anime that is set to premiere in 2024. The series adaptation is produced by Ajia-do Animation Works, written by Yōko Yonaiyama and directed by Yūta Murano with Kasumi Sakai for the character design and Yukari Hashimoto for the music.
Sumire Morohoshi and Yu Miyazaki will voice the two protagonists in japanese.

A Sign of Affection is a sweet and delicate story based on the theme of comunication and expression. The author duo declared in a interview that they decided to create a story based on sign language because they were interested in it and did a lot of research about it. Communicate is complicated, we communicate in many different ways, throught our words, our gestures, our styles, our eyes and ofted we can be misunderstood. Expressing ourself is hard, there is not a unique way.
How can two people who do not speak the same language communicate? What language does the heat speak? That’s what A Sign of Affection talks about.
The story has been also adapted into a musical that ran in the Honda Theater in Tokyo from June 4 to June 13, 2021. It was directed by Maiko Tanaka and written by Sanae Iijima with Kiyoko Ogino forthe music and Kiyomi Maeda in charge of choreography. It starred Erika Toyohara as Yuki, Takahisa Maeyama as Itsuomi, Manatsu Hayashi as Rin, Saho Aono as Ema, Ikeoka Ryōsuke as Ōshi, Kodai Miyagi as Shin, and Ryuji Kamiyama as Kyōya
